ADVERTISING MEMORABILIA

Where does it say that art on the wall has to be painted on a canvas or printed on paper?

Publicité from France, in the form of signs, pitchers, glassware, clocks, fans and so on create colorful and artful displays that give character to a space.

Café Society's highly collectable signs, made predominantly in enamel, date from 1850 - 1950. Many of the great artists of each period created these advertising materials which were as well known as their paintings. Each year they become more difficult to find.

Historically, pitchers, carafes, glassware and decorative barware were used as functional items in cafés and bistros. Use them today for table water, wine and/or flowers. Advertising fans, fabricated with less expense than the large advertising signs, were as well known as their paintings. Use them for a beautiful arrangement on your wall or to keep cool on a hot summer day.

A taste of the antique signs, pitchers, glassware and fans featured at Café Society are pictured to the right.
