GATTI CAFE FURNITURE Fabricators of the authentic French bistro furniture seen throughout the cafés of Paris since 1920, the Maison J. Gatti company now makes these wonderful designs available in the United States through Café Society by Osburn Design. Picasso, Sartre, Matisse, Hemingway, and Gertrude Stein enjoyed Parisian café life at these very chairs and tables that are so much a part of the Paris experience.
Completely hand made in a small factory outside of Paris, Maison J. Gatti's history goes back to the early twentieth century when Madame Gatti's father started the company. The father of the current owners, brothers Herve and Benoit Maugrion, worked for the elder Monsieur Gatti. His sons now continue the family tradition of producing this festive, romantic furniture for cafés, restaurants and homes around the world. Joan Osburn sought out the Gatti company after many visits to Paris established a deep connection to the city and its unique café life. Ms. Osburn and Madame Gatti met, the relationship flourished and a continuing close tie with the Maugrion brothers has allowed Café Society to offer this fabulous furniture to those who want to create their own café environment. With a wide range of colors, weaving patterns and styles, a multitude of design options are available. The furniture is designed to survive the elements of French outdoor cafés beautifully and may be enjoyed in this country inside or outdoors. Each piece is constructed of high-grade rattan coated with marine varnish and woven with Rilsan, a natural product derived from the castor bean oil plant. Rilsan is virtually unbreakable as well as weather, fade and light resistant. It is so tough, some automotive manufacturers use it to make gas tanks! The finishing touch on all Gatti products is a bronze plaque with the Gatti signature, signifying its authenticity.
