The island contains a prep sink and one of two dishwashers. Hungry kids can perch on stools at the end of the island for a quick snack. Opposite, cabinets contain open shelves for cookbooks and cupboards with reverse-painted glass doors.

A room adjoining the kitchen features a sectional sofa and built-in media center, where family members can watch TV while meal preparations are underway.
